Summary
RingThing is designed to do as little as possible with your data. The iPhone app does not require an account, does not ask you to sign in, and does not send your ring themes or personal information to us. The ringthing.app website is a static informational site and a redirector for shared theme links.
The only data we passively receive is the standard technical information any web server collects when you load a page (such as your IP address). We use this only to keep the site running and secure.
Information we do not collect
- We do not require accounts, sign-ups, or sign-ins.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact information.
- We do not track your location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks, marketing pixels, or behavioral analytics.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties, because we do not have any to share.
The RingThing iPhone app
Ring themes that you design are stored locally on your device. When you share a theme, the theme contents are encoded into the link or QR code itself — they are not uploaded to our servers and we do not keep a copy. Anyone you give the link or QR to can decode it on their device, and you can revoke access by simply not sharing the link.
If the app uses Apple system services (for example, sharing via the system share sheet, or saving an image to your Photos library), those interactions are handled by iOS and are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
The ringthing.app website
When you visit the website, our hosting provider automatically processes basic request information so it can deliver the page and protect the service from abuse. This typically includes:
- Your IP address.
- The user-agent string sent by your browser.
- The URL or path you requested and the time of the request.
- Referrer information sent by your browser, if any.
This information is used only to operate, secure, and debug the site. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with information from other sources.
The website does not currently use cookies for tracking. If a future version introduces cookies or analytics, we will update this policy before doing so.
Shared theme links
Links of the form ringthing.app/t/… encode a theme directly in the URL. When such a link is opened on an iPhone with the RingThing app installed, iOS will hand it off to the app via Universal Links and the theme is decoded locally. If the app is not installed, the link opens a standard web page on ringthing.app, which receives the same basic request information described above.
Children
RingThing is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add features that change how data is handled. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected in the policy before the new behavior takes effect.
